FAQ
Section 1: Understanding NRBVN
Q1. What exactly is the NRBVN and why do I need it if I live outside Nigeria?
A: The NRBVN (Non-Resident Bank Verification Number) is a special BVN enrollment system designed for Nigerians living abroad. You need it if you want to operate a Nigerian bank account, complete property transactions, invest back home, or meet CBN compliance—even if you’re based in the UK, US, Canada, or any other country.
Q2. Is NRBVN different from the regular BVN people in Nigeria get?
A: No, it’s the same BVN, but the process is tailored for Nigerians in the diaspora. The "NR" just means your enrollment is done remotely, without needing to travel to Nigeria.
Q3. Can I use the NRBVN to open a Nigerian bank account from abroad?
A: Yes! Most Nigerian banks accept the BVN issued via the NRBVN platform for opening both Naira and domiciliary accounts. Once enrolled, your BVN works just like any BVN in Nigeria.
Q4. I already have a Nigerian account but no BVN. Can I use NRBVN to link it?
A: Absolutely. Once you complete your NRBVN registration, you can link it to your existing bank account. Most banks have an online portal or branch request form for that.
Q5. I left Nigeria before BVN became mandatory. Can I still enroll now from the UK?
A: Yes. Many Nigerians left before BVN was introduced in 2014. NRBVN enrollment is made for people just like you—so you don’t need to fly back just to register.
Q6. Is NRBVN recognized by all Nigerian banks?
A: Yes, it’s processed under the NIBSS system (Nigeria Inter-Bank Settlement System), so every bank that accepts BVN will recognize your NRBVN.
Q7. Who runs nrbvn.ng—is it safe?
A: nrbvn.ng is an approved BVN facilitation platform. It partners with licensed agents and uses biometric tools to verify Nigerians abroad securely. Your data is encrypted and processed only by authorized agents.
Section 2: Document Requirements
Q8. What documents do I need to complete NRBVN enrollment?
A: Typically, you’ll need:
Nigerian passport (or valid ID)
Proof of address abroad (utility bill, bank statement)
A selfie (for facial verification)
Payment confirmation
Q9. I don’t have a Nigerian passport—can I use something else?
A: Yes, in some cases, a Nigerian voter card or National ID may be accepted, but the passport is strongly recommended to avoid delays.
Q10. Will my passport or documents be shared with anyone else?
A: No. Your documents are securely handled, used only for enrollment, and not shared outside the registration and compliance team.
Section 3: Technical Questions
Q11. I’m not good with tech—can someone assist me?
A: Absolutely. We offer support through WhatsApp, email, and live chat. You’ll be guided step-by-step, even if you’ve never used online portals before.
Q12. My photo or selfie keeps failing the verification test—why?
A: This usually happens due to low lighting or poor camera quality. Make sure your face is fully visible, no hats or glasses, and hold steady during the selfie test.
Q13. My webcam doesn’t work—can I use my phone for biometric verification?
A: Yes. The portal is mobile-responsive and works with most Android and iOS devices. It’s often even easier on mobile.
Q14. How do I know when my application is complete?
A: You’ll receive an email confirmation, and your dashboard will show “Enrollment Submitted.” Once approved, you’ll receive your BVN by email or SMS.
Q15. I lost access to the email I used to sign up—what can I do?
A: Contact our support team via support@nrbvn.ng with a form of ID. We’ll help you update your email address after verifying your identity.
Section 4: Fees and Payments
Q16. Do I have to pay to register for NRBVN?
A: Yes. There is a one-time service fee, which covers biometric verification, document processing, and agent enrollment. It’s more affordable than flying back to Nigeria!
Q17. How much is the NRBVN enrollment fee?
A: The fee varies slightly by country due to currency exchange, but typically ranges between ₦15,000–₦25,000 or the equivalent in your local currency.
Q18. Can I pay with a UK, US, or EU bank card?
A: Yes. You can pay with any Visa, MasterCard, or international card. We also accept payments via PayPal, Apple Pay, and selected regional wallets.
Q19. What if I paid and didn’t get confirmation?
A: Please check your spam folder first. If nothing arrives within 24 hours, send your payment receipt to billing@nrbvn.ng for assistance.
Q20. Are payments on nrbvn.ng secure?
A: Completely. We use PCI-DSS compliant payment gateways and never store your full card details.
